Reading through the Bible: Exodus 31-33 #CEB

These are some of my favorite passages in the Bible.  I love in chapter 33 that Moses convinces God to act in a certain way.  I also think that it is cool that Moses wanted to “see” God, and God allowed it to happen too.  Chapter 32 is filled with great preaching material.  What Golden calves do you worship?

Todays reading is in Exodus 31-33.  Remember this is a link to the Bible I read from for devotions, at the link you can switch versions or look the passage up in your own Bible.  Please comment after reading our “Graceful” comments page.

Thoughts that came to mind as I read these chapters:
As God gave all the gifts to His people to accomplish the tasks that He assigned to build the Tabernacle which is where He would be, I believe God must have given us the gifts to make our temple (body) acceptable to the house God (Holy Spirit) within each of us.
Since God is never changing. His anger is today the same as when he said these words in 32:10 (NKJ). “Now, therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them.” But then, how the pleas of one man, Moses, caused God to change his mind and go on to bless them with a promise.
33:12 talks about God’s promise of His presence with “His People”. When thinking about applying this to us, today, could this correspond to the Holy Spirit that is within a believer today or is God speaking specifically of His Presence with “His People”, in this Biblical event?

Exodus is an interesting, thought provoking part of the Bible. It shows God’s wrath and the ways that he chooses to show that He is God….In recalling the history that I have read about Egypt, they had many Gods; some that were half man/half animal, so the need to prove that He is God would be urgent. These passages, however, give me concern because of other teachings to turn the other cheek, forgive thy enemies etc. It is important for me to remember the scope of the world at the time of these happenings. Even today, the Middle East is constantly in turmoil and made up of many faiths, tribes and cultures. This type of culture is difficult to imagine in today’s times, but we have to try to understand their centuries of teachings and behaviors…..
By the way, I have never read the Bible all the way through, so this is a welcome journey and a commitment that I have made., Thank you.
